The Global Young Leaders conference (GYLC) was one of the most memorable experiences I’ve ever had. The trip went for two weeks and had us participating in mock UN simulations, group leadership activities and a range of activities, in Washington and New York. The GYLC bought together 300 students from across the globe and from different cultures. One of the strengths of the trip was meeting so many new people and creating friendships that will last a life time. It was excellent to be around so many like minded individuals who want to create a positive impact for the future. The Conference focused on cross-cultural communication and world issues with an emphasis on the role of leaders in a globalised world. We were challenged to come up with creative solutions for problems as well as working in a team ranging from three to thirty people.
One of the highlights of the Conference was the visit to the UN headquarters where, we had the opportunity to run a mock UN Council meeting and participate and represent a country to voice our ideas and pass actions. The trip was also a good chance to see that part of America. We had excursions to museums like the MET and Natural History Museum as well as sightseeing at the Washington Monument and the White House. I believe that this opportunity is what you make it and then the world comes to you. I would highly recommend this experience.
