Bequests to CGS
A powerful way of giving back to the School is to leave provision for its future in your will.
For some, a bequest to the CGS Foundation may take the form of a designated amount or asset.
For others, it may be a small percentage of their estate; say 2%, which would be a significant contribution to the Foundation Scholarship or Building Fund but would still leave 98% to family.
Obviously, a bequest requires thoughtful consideration and independent consultation, but the CGS Foundation can provide advice on options for you to discuss with your family and solicitors.
All who notify the CGS Foundation of their bequest become members of the Edwards Society, sharing their legacy with that of the School’s first Headmaster, whose faith and vision in establishing the School became our heritage.

CGS Edwards Society
As a bequestor, you become a valued member of the CGS Edwards Society, established in honour of the School’s first Headmaster, Dr W J Edwards, who had the faith and vision to proceed with the establishment of an Anglican Boys’ School in the national capital. The CGS Edwards Society is made up of an inner circle of donors who have made provisions for CGS in their will. Through your membership, and with your permission, your bequest will be acknowledged via the CGS website and Annual Report. Should you wish to remain anonymous, we will acknowledge your gift privately.
We are enormously grateful to those who have bequeathed any portion of their estate to CGS and thank all of our CGS Edwards Society members for their support and their generous commitment to the success of CGS.
Wills
A will is a very personal statement that needs to be worded correctly. We recommend that you consult with your legal adviser before drafting a will or updating an existing one.
As a starting point, we suggest that the following wording be used to indicate your intention to make a general bequest to the School via the CGS Foundation.
General purposes:
‘I give [insert dollar amount / % of my residuary estate] to Canberra Grammar School Foundation ABN 26 008 549 880 for the general purposes of the School.’
Specific purpose – scholarships/bursaries:
‘I give [insert dollar amount / % of my residuary estate] to Canberra Grammar School Foundation ABN 26 008 549 880 to establish one or more scholarships and/or bursaries for [insert general description of area to be supported if required eg academic, sporting, music.]’
